Below is an explanation of how the delay works for Existing Members and New Members when using Content Scheduler in the Content Control section of WishList Member.

Example: Access to a post is set to be shown after 5 days. So the delay is set for a period of 5 days.

The delay is based on if the user is a new member or an existing member on the date the page/post was published.

Existing Members: The delay in access for the selected page/post will take effect after the page/post is published. So if you have a 5-day delay set for a selected page/post, existing members will see it 5 days after the page/post is published.

New Members: The delay in access for new members will take effect after they have been added to the selected membership level. So if you have a 5-day delay set for a selected page/post, new members will see it 5 days after they were added to the appropriate membership level.

Note: A workaround for existing members not seeing a newly published page/post right away is to change the publish date for that page/post to a date earlier than today's date and minus the number of days for the set delay.

As an example, let's say you want a newly published page to be seen by existing members right away (today) and the delay on that page is set to 5-days and it was published on May 10th. You can change the publish date of the page to May 4th or earlier and existing members will see that page right away.

The Content Control section in WishList Member provides even more in depth control over your content.

It is comprised of 3 modules. Each providing it's own set of useful features and functionality.

Content Scheduler

The ability to drip content to members based on a specific schedule is a popular delivery method. Content Scheduler allows you to decide who gets content and when that content gets delivered. You set the timeline.

Content Archiver

Often referred to as the “magazine method”, content can be accessed by members who are in a Level during the set period of time. Once a selected date hits, new members won't be able to access that archived content while previous members can still access it.

Content Manager

There are times when you might want to automate the content on your site. Perhaps you want to set a page to repost over the course of the next year. Or, maybe you want to move a post to a protected category after it's been available to the public for a week. These are a sample of what can be done using Content Manager.

Content Manager is part of the Content Control section in WishList Member.

The Content Manager feature allows for additional control over content by providing options to set specific pieces of content to delete, move to a different category, or re-post on a set date. The Content Manager feature can be used to help automate the ongoing management of content.

To get started, click on the Content Control menu option in WishList Member:

You’ll first need to make sure the Content Manager feature is enabled, so click on the “Settings” link:

Then click the toggle to the “Enable Content Manager”. Once enabled, the Content Manager features are available in WishList Member.

Note: Content Manager doesn't need a general Settings option because it gets applied directly to selected pieces of content and is not reliant on Levels.

You can now select the type of content you’d like to control. This is typically Posts or Pages. But if you (or another plugin you’re using) has created any custom post types for your site, those will be displayed here as well.

For this example, we’ll work with Posts. You’ll see a list of Posts and you can select the specific Post you’d like to work on:

The Content Manager functionality can be applied to one or more Posts at a time. Click the check box beside the Post(s) you want to edit.

You can now select “Add Content Manager Date” from the Select an Action dropdown:

A pop up will appear. Select the Action you want to apply.

There are 4 Actions available:

Set Content Status
Add Content to a Category
Move Content to a Category
Repost Content

Set Content Status

  • You can set the status of a piece of content to be changed on a specified date. Example: A Published Post can be scheduled to be set as a Draft. (Status Options: Published, Pending Review, Draft, Trash)
  • The example Screenshot below shows a Post that is scheduled to be set as a Draft on August 28th. Clicking the “Add Content Manager Date” button will schedule the Action.
  • The content is now scheduled. In this case, the Hello World! post will be set to Draft status on August 28th.

Note: You can edit or delete the set Action by clicking the icons that appear when hovering the mouse over the corresponding row.

Add Content to a Category

  • You can set a piece of content to be Added to a Category/Categories on a specified date. Note: Adding to a new Category also keeps the piece of content in any previous Category/Categories. (If you want to remove the piece of content from any previous Category/Categories, see the Move option).
  • The example Screenshot below shows a Post that is scheduled to be Added to the Courses Category on September 30th. Clicking the “Add Content Manager Date” button will schedule the Action.
  • The content is now scheduled. In this case, the Hello World! post will be Added to the Courses Category on September 30th.

Note: You can edit or delete the set Action by clicking the icons that appear when hovering the mouse over the corresponding row.

Move Content to a Category

  • You can set a piece of content to be Moved to a Category/Categories on a specified date. Note: Moving to a new Category will remove the piece of content from any previous Category/Categories. (If you want to keep the piece of content in any previous Category/Categories, see the Add option).
  • The example Screenshot below shows a Post that is scheduled to be Moved to the Lessons Category on November 15th. Clicking the “Add Content Manager Date” button will schedule the Action.
  • The content is now scheduled. In this case, the Hello World! post will be Moved to the Lessons Category on November 15th.

Note: You can edit or delete the set Action by clicking the icons that appear when hovering the mouse over the corresponding row.

Repost Content

  • You can set a piece of content to be reposted on a specified schedule. There is also an option to set the repetition frequency if you want a piece of content to be reposted every month, year, etc. A copy of the piece of content will be reposted based on the schedule set.
  • The example Screenshot below shows a Post that is scheduled to be Reposted each year on December 2nd for a total of 3 years. This will result in a copy of the Post being published on December 2nd for the next 3 years. Clicking the “Add Content Manager Date” button will schedule the Action.
  • The content is now scheduled. In this case, the Hello World! post will be Reposted on December 2nd.
  • The Repetitions were set for 3 so the Repost shows the first instance set to happen on December 2nd. That means there are 2 repetitions left after that first Repost.

Note: You can edit or delete the set Action by clicking the icons that appear when hovering the mouse over the corresponding row.

There is also an option to bulk “Remove Content Manager Date” from selected pieces of content. This can be done by checking the boxes beside the pieces of content and using the Action dropdown.

Content Archiver is part of the Content Control section in WishList Member.

The Content Archiver feature allows you to specify an Expiration Date for content that is assigned to a Level (or Levels). This means you select content to archive so only members who are assigned to the Level(s) during the time it was released will continue to have ongoing access to the archived content.

New members who were not a part of the Level when the Archived Content was released would not be able to access the content. That piece of content would not be accessible to others. It is only accessible to those who were members of the Level(s) during the set period of time.

To get started, click on the Content Control menu option in WishList Member:

You’ll first need to make sure the Content Archiver feature is enabled, so click on the “Settings” link:

Then click the toggle to the “Enable Content Archiver”.

Once enabled, the blue “Settings” button will appear. Clicking this button allows for the adjusting of some general Content Archiver settings.

You can set either a Page, or a Message, or a URL to be shown to members if they try to access archived content they don't have access to.

A basic message is displayed by default. You can adjust the default message or select a Page or URL of your choice.

You can also select if you want to enable “Archived Content Visibility”.

Enabling this option will hide content from being displayed in page or post lists to members who joined the Level(s) after the archived date (non-accessible archived content). It will not hide it from being displayed to members who had access to the Level(s) before the archive date (accessible archived content).

Once you close that box, you can now select the type of content you'd like to control. This is typically Posts or Pages. But if you (or another plugin you’re using) has created any custom post types for your site, those will be displayed here as well.

For this example, we'll work with Posts. You'll see a list of Posts and you can select the specific Post you’d like to work on:

The Content Archiver functionality can be applied to one or more Posts at a time. Click the check box beside the Post(s) you want to edit.

You can now select “Set Archive Date” from the Select an Action dropdown:

A pop up will appear. Select the Level(s) you want to apply the Archive Date to. You can select one or multiple levels. Also set the Archive Date using the date picker.

Once set, click the green Apply button and then the blue Set Archive Date.

In this example, the Archive Date is being set to October 25th for the Gold Level.

You will now see the content has been set to be Archived for the Level on the specified date.

You can edit or delete the set Archive Date by clicking the icons that appear when hovering the mouse over the corresponding row.

The content is now set to be archived. In this case, the Hello World! post will be accessible to members who join the Gold Level by October 25th. It will not be accessible to member who join the Gold Level after October 25th.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

You can decide when members gain access to protected content and can even set if you want to remove access after a set period of time. Its as easy as setting a couple options for a membership level once and then anyone who joins that level will receive access to content based on the schedule you set. This is handled by Content Scheduler, a very useful part of the Content Control feature in WishList Member.

Content Scheduler allows you to drip content to members. Dripping content is an ever growing popular option for publishing content.

It is a method of releasing content bit-by-bit instead of all-at-once. So, when a new member joins an online site – instead of dropping all the content on them at once, you can “drip” out your content on a module by module basis over a set period of time.

More details are included below including Screenshots and information on Setup and the Content Scheduler Shortcode.

Content Scheduler Setup

To get started, click on the Content Control menu option in WishList Member.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

You'll first need to make sure the Content Scheduler feature is enabled, so you can click on the “Settings” link.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

Then click the toggle next to “Enable Content Scheduler”.

While you're here, you can edit the settings for Content Scheduler by clicking the “Settings” button.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

The Content Scheduler Settings popup appears. You can set a Page, Message or URL users will see if they try to access content that has been scheduled, but they don't have access to it yet.

You can set what they will see by editing the options in this section. A default message is selected but you can choose or edit any option you would like.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

Schedule Content with WishList Member Content Scheduler

You can now select the “post type” you'd like to edit. This will usually be your posts or pages, but if you (or a plugin you are using) has created any custom post types, you can select any of those here.

Now you can select the post or page you would like to work with. This example uses a post named “New Post”.

Then, select “Set Content Schedule (Drip)” from the dropdown.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

The Set Content Schedule (Drip) popup appears. You can select the membership level(s) that you would like to apply the schedule to. You have the option to select one or multiple levels. The screenshot below shows the Platinum level being selected.

You have two choices when it comes to how to schedule the content. These two options appear under the “Show” title.

After. If selected, you can set when the content will appear to the user after they have registered to the level and for how long.

On. If selected, you can set when the content will appear to the user starting on a specific date and for how long.

Show Content After

Select the “After” option under the Show title and the corresponding fields will appear. Set the number of days “After User Registered” for the level that you'd like the content to start showing. In this case, 0 days has been selected so the post will show right away to new members.

You can set the number of days you would like the post to “Show For”. In this case, the field has been left empty so the post will always show to members in the selected level. As an example, you could set the “Show For” field to 14 days if you only wanted the members to be able to view that post for 14 days.

Once you click the “Set Content Schedule” button, you will now see the schedule is set for that post in the Posts list.

More details on how the set content schedule delay is applied to Existing Members and New Members can be found in this Knowledge Base entry.

Show Content On

Select the “On” option under the Show title and the corresponding fields will appear. Set the “Start Date” for the level that you'd like the content to start showing. In this case, February 20th has been selected so the post will show to members starting on that date.

You can set the number of days you would like the post to “Show For”. In this case, the field has been set to 30 days so the post will stop showing to members in the selected level on that date. The date and time the content will stop showing to members is also displayed.

Once you click the “Set Content Schedule” button, you will now see the schedule is set for that post in the Posts list.

You can also edit or delete a schedule by clicking the pencil or trash can icons that will appear when you hover over a post.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

Those are the steps you can use to schedule your content. Of course, those are just a couple of examples. Let's take a look at another content scheduling example.

With the setup shown in the screenshots below, the selected post would show to the members 7 days after they register to the Gold membership level and it would show for 14 days before “disappearing” for them.

There are a number of creative uses for Content Scheduler. Dripping out a course, managing an on-boarding sequence, displaying time-limited content and a whole lot more.

One more thing to note is the Sequential Upgrade feature is also available for dripping content. It allows for dripping content using a different method and more details can be found in the Sequential Upgrade Knowledge Base article.

Schedule Content Directly on a WordPress Page or Post

You also have the option to schedule content in the WishList Member section while editing a WordPress page or post. You'll see these options below the main content area.

The two “Show” options are available and you can select “After” or “On” using the blue slider.

The screenshot example below shows the After option selected and set to show the content to members in the Platinum level 7 days after they register and for 14 days.

The screenshot example below shows the On option selected and set to show the content to members in the Gold level on March 18th and for 45 days.

Content Scheduler Shortcode

The Content Scheduler Shortcode is available to use and it can be inserted into a page or post by using a Classic Block in the WordPress Gutenberg editor or the Shortcode Creator found on the WishList Member Dashboard.

This shortcode can be used to display a list of upcoming scheduled content to members.

More details on inserting shortcodes/mergecodes can be found in this Knowledge Base article.

Below is an example of the Content Scheduler Shortcode being created using the Shortcode Creator on the WishList Member Dashboard.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

The Shortcode Creator popup appears and you can select the Content Scheduler Shortcode. A few clicks to adjust the available options and then copy the Shortcode to be inserted into the page, post, etc. of your choice.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

This will display a list of the upcoming scheduled content. The list can show the date and time that content will be available to the member.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

Below is an example of how the list of Upcoming Content can appear to a Member.

Content Scheduler - Drip Content

Content Scheduler is a powerful piece of the Content Control feature within WishList Member. You have the power to select when your members get to access protected content and for how long.

We also recommend checking out the other options within Content Control.

  • Content Archiver. Often referred to as the “magazine method”, content can be accessed by members who are in a membership level during the set period of time. Once a selected date hits, new members won’t be able to access that archived content while previous members can still access it.
  • Content Manager. There are times when you might want to automate the content on your site. Perhaps you want to set a page to re-post over the course of the next year. Or, maybe you want to move a post to a protected category after it’s been available to the public for a week. These are a sample of what can be done using Content Manager.
